Issue#11: Tableau - Charlotte TUG Beginner's Meeting - 1/14/2016

  • Check out this awesome post below about the Charlotte User Groups first meeting of 2016. Thanks William for sharing with the rest of the community!

Last night was the first user group meeting of the new year with a special emphasis as a "Beginner's Meeting".  Many thanks to our Tableau Peers, Bethany Patterson and Charity St. John at Okuma America for organizing and hosting this event at their Thinc Partners facility in South Charlotte.  We started at the beginning with a presentation on Tableau Terminology (the presentation has been loaded as a document in the content folder on this site) and then went through a quick dashboard building demo using the super store dataset.  Many thanks to Brian Mooneyham and Manjesh Gorajala for pitching in during the Q&A and being our "Tableau Doctors" as we broke out into small groups for more focused problem solving!

Our 3rd Qtr Beginner's Meeting was held on July 28, 2016 at the Okuma Americas facility in South Charlotte. Many thanks to our location sponsor, Okuma, and our event sponsor, Randstad! Our topic for the evening was Tableau Mapping. Our first presentation showed some historical and contemporary examples of the importance that maps play in visualizing data.  We reviewed the basic steps in building a map as well as looking at a few examples. Bethany Patterson and Charity St. John shared some examples of maps they use in their roles as well as some fun examples showing maps with URL Actions. Tyler Franz and Trevor Corbin, from the Charlotte Hornets BI Team, shared some views of the Charlotte Hornets Stadium with some helpful tips on buidling for background maps. - William Aubrey  Resources:"Maps! • Issue#938646: Tableau - Issue Consistently Connecting to PowerPivot Models (Excel 2016)

Hi all, I'm currently running Tableau 10 Beta 4 (and have also tried using Tableau 9.3.4 and 9.2.4) and connecting to PowerPivot models built in Excel 2016. I have installed all the relevant drivers for both Tableau and Excel. Sometimes I am able to connect just fine (usually when I have recently restarted my computer). Sometimes- usually after making some changes to my data model, saving and closing Excel, and refreshing my connection- I am prompted with an error message and this usually persists for a while or until I restart my machine:  "The drivers necessary to connect to this database server are not properly installed.  Visit http://www.tableausoftware.com/drivers to download driver setup files.  It appears that you don't have Tableau PowerPivot Add-In (Excel Add-In) installed. Please install Tableau PowerPivot Add-In and try again.  Unable to connect to the server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested data

  • Issue#20: Tableau - Aggregation issue

Hello all, I just want to begin by saying how much this forum has saved my job! Thanks everyone! I am having an issue getting my values to aggregate properly. I have attached two pictures below to help explain:BEFOREAFTERThe problem is that when I remove a dimension, the values are not aggregating properly. Each Facility and Cost Center should have 1 App attached to it and taking away Summary Pay type should not aggregate those Apps. Once I take away Cost Center, then they should begin to aggregate. I can use MAX() but then it keeps the same value when I get rid of cost center and I would want that to be Summed. The end goal of this is to track Dollars/App By facility and able to drilldown to cost center, then summary pay type and another layer of fidelity that I may add in. Thanks!

  • Issue#25845: Autodesk - AutoCAD LT for Mac 2016 iCloud Drive Issue

I've been using AutoCad for Mac since September and have been saving some work to iCloud Drive on a Mac running El Capitan. Recently those drawings saved to iCloud Drive are duplicated as many times as they are opened. I have tried opening the drawing from iCloud Drive in Finder and I have tried opening the same drawing from the splash screen at AutoCad start up. For example I have a drawing that is called "House 360". After opening it editing attributes and saving it a few times I now have "House 360 2.dwg", "House 360 3.dwg", "House 360 4.dwg", ect?  These new versions are not backups but are .dwg's with their own individual backups. Any Setting that needs changed or know glitch that is process to be fixed with this? Thanks!
